year 6 shakespear plays

Just over a week ago we did something very fun in year six with some year tens from The Kibworth School and their English teacher. We were taught all about Shakespear's plays and mostly did work on Romeo and Juliet. We had learned that Romeo and Juliet isn't a boring love story like everyone thinks, it's a play with mostly battle! It's the battle between two very similar families and two young adults, who are both on a different side, who fell in love. We had so much fun doing activities, games and swooshes (acting out what is being read) and all had no idea how good it was going to be.

The Basketball Tournament

When we turned up at the tournament, which was at Robert Smyth, we started training. All together there were 6 teams there (including us). Our first game was against Kibworth A.  They were a very good side and unfortunately we lost. Straight after that game we played Kibworth B and we won 2-1, Kian scored the first goal and then Cole scored a free throw. Then after that we had a little rest. After that we played  two more games and lost them both. But then we came to our last game and won 2-0 and luckily I got my first goal, YAY!

Year 6 Basketball Team

On the basket ball team there were eight children taking part. Five children would play while the others watched. Being on the team is a great opportunity, we played five other schools.
As Fleckney Primary School, we won 3/5 matches. To get ready before the matches, we trained at lunch time, at school. It was after school when we played all the matches. It was good fun as well as good exercise. Everyone enjoyed it and had great fun! It was challenging at the matches but we worked together to win three of the matches!  Most of the team were trained by the Leicester Riders, and two of us where our schools Sports Ambassadors.

Poetry Day

Year 6 had a poetry day last week on Friday and were looking at how to act out a poem looking at what  a certain poem is trying to show like a happy poem needs to set a happy mood throughout the poem and learning to change the way that you use your voice if you are changing characters like a small child would speak differently to a adult or a happy and a sad person they then had a competition because two different groups and the winners got to perform their poem in the assembly in the afternoon to share every classes work

Overall all the year 6's had lots of fun and enjoyed learning all about poetry and are looking forward to poetry day next year in their ne high school

On the 26th of January 2016. Five pupils from The Kibworth school came in with the English leader (Miss Tucker) to teach us about Shakespeare. We did it based on Romeo and Juliet. It was a lot of fun as every one got included. We did this thing called a whoosh. Its where a one of the pupils from The Kibworth school said a part of the story and got some of us to act it out. It was a lot of fun and everyone had a great time.

Gymnastics trip

Gymnastics trip

On Tuesday 2nd of February all of the gymnastics club went on a trip to a gymnastics centre for the morning. It was about 30 minutes to get there and 30 minutes to get back.

When we got there, there was two gymnastic coaches waiting for us to do the warm up and get started. First we split into three groups of five. First we went on the bars where we had to do pull ups. Next we had to swing on the bar.

Then we went onto the vault were we did a squat on.

After that we went on the beam and walked forward, backwards and sideways on it and we all found it hard.

Then we went on the hoops and did tuck with a cube of foam in our legs and swung on them.

Then we went on the trampoline and did star jumps and seat drops.
And finally we went to have a free play in the foam.

The Salvation Army

It was Thursday the 7th January and a the start of a new term at Fleckney and the children got a treat when the Salvation Army came in to play their brass instruments. The children did some singing along with the band (you can listen to some of this on the school website) and one of the pupils even got to conduct, to make sure that they were all playing in time with one another. The main lesson of this assembly was that you all need to work as a team and play your part for everything to go well. The band showed this by all playing what they wanted to all at the same time. It really didn't sound very good. Then they all played the same song but the wrong parts to what they usually play. This sounded a little better but it still wasn't as good as it could be. Finally they all played their part in the same song and it sounded amazing. Overall, I think that the day was a great success!
