Year 6 physics day at Leicester university

On Monday 28 November 2016, four children had been selected to go to a physics day at the University of Leicester along with some pupils from other schools. In the first half of the morning one group had a tour of the University; the school was very big and we enjoyed seeing it. In the second half we had a big blob of play-dough and a piece of paper with all the planets on. We had to create the planets, the sizes they are (but obviously smaller). Next we had our lunch. The afternoon was the best part because we all sat in big room and the teacher (Spacey Tracy) froze a load of things with liquid nitrogen, some of the things she froze were: a banana, a bouquet of flowers and some different types balls. At the end Spacey Tracy froze some marshmallows and we all got to try one they were so good but so messy as they kept crumbling. The very end before we left we went outside and on the floor was a bucket of water, on of the teachers poured in the liquid nitrogen and the gas went everywhere. It was like a smoke machine had gone off. We also got the chance to meat a real astronaut called professor Geoff Heffman who had gone to the moon five times and worked for NASA we all had so much fun.

The Nutcracker visit

The year 4 and 5s were lucky enough to be able to travel over to London and watch the Nutcracker,  a ballet performance at The Royal Opera House. On the way they went to Kenningworth House to have their lunch and to have a look around. When they arrived at The Royal Opera House they were stunned by the fantastic building. Then they found their front row seats and waited for the performance to start; apparently the best bit was when the Nutcracker, Clara and two other male dancers did an amazing performance which everyone liked. Once it had finished they headed back home all really buzzing about the show but very tired after a 6:45am start!

It is a competitive fun game where at the end of the year people with the most winning points  and the runners up get a certificate awarded at the end of chess club term. Pirate Panto

 PIRATE PANTOMIME
Last weeks Wednesday we were all hit for a surprise as we were singing, a crew of pirates roared through the hall making us sing dance and answer all sorts of questions on there map to set our singing teacher free. It was like the stage came to us all the way from the village hall  to Fleckney primary school. Everyone in the hall suddenly turned into a riot from laughing and shouting to booing and applause. The pirates told us that it was just a bit of what they would really do at the pantomime, as we were begging for more, so why not get your tickets NOW!

The Year 6 Geography Quiz

Recently 6 students went to Robert Smyth School to take part in the annual Geography quiz. There were two teams of three; Fleckney team 1, who were represented by Daniel S, Alex R and George K. Fleckney team 2 represented by Rio M, Jack B and Matthew L-S. There were several rounds of Geography general knowledge, ranging from  identifying anagrams of Cathedral Cities and their locations to identifying Geographical words and their meaning. Fleckney team 1, were rewarded with a soda cream lollipop in round 1 for  finishing first. Luckily everyone who took part also got a lollipop, including the parents. The quiz was really interesting and increased my knowledge of Geography. I would like to thank Head of Geography at Robert Smyth for a very well organised event.

Warning zone

Year six have recently visited The Warning Zone, an all round safety experience centre, to learn all about the dangers of railways, roads, open water, electricity, the internet, building sites and personal safety. We all learned lots about being safe in and around danger zones, with interactive activities and informative guides. We'd advise anyone with an interest in safety to take a visit to the warning zone and experience its incredible ways of teaching.

French contest

On the 24th of October 4 children went to a French speaking and listening contest at RSA. We were performing part of The Hungry Caterpillar in French. We had a great time. During the break we had to order some food in French. It was a great experience all round. Sadly we didn’t get into the top three but we did quite well.
